Butler County was founded in the year 1849 and named after William O. Butler (D-Kentucky), a former U.S. Representative and unsuccessful candidate for Vice President. The territory is located in the southeast Ozark Foothills Region in Southeast Missouri in the United States. It has an area of 698.97 sq mi.
